When Art Meets Salina: Signum and the Exhibition Amore a prima vista

We are happy to welcome you on Wednesday 1 July 2026, to celebrate the preview of the inauguration of Marina Perez Simão’s solo exhibition “Love at first sight”, curated by Mirta d’Argenzio, at Palazzo Marchetti di Malfa, in Salina.

Hotel Signum sees Salina not only as the place that hosts it, but as a heritage to be enhanced and narrated through initiatives capable of expressing its most authentic identity. It is in this spirit that its support for Amore a prima vista was born, a solo exhibition by Brazilian artist Marina Perez Simão, presented by the contemporary art gallery Mendes Wood DM and curated by Mirta d’Argenzio.

The exhibition will be hosted in the spaces of Palazzo Marchetti in Malfa from 2 July to 15 October 2026, becoming part of the cultural calendar that enriches the life of the island every summer.

For Signum, supporting a project such as Amore a prima vista means helping to create a dialogue between contemporary art, landscape and hospitality. An encounter that finds a natural harmony in Salina, between the power of nature and the sensitivity of the artistic gaze.

Marina Perez Simão, born in Vitória, Brazil in 1980 and now internationally recognised, creates works that move in balance between abstraction and figuration. Her canvases do not seek to represent reality in a descriptive way, but to evoke it through colour, light and memory. In her works, mainly created with oil paint on linen, the landscape becomes a subtle and ever-changing presence.

Forms take shape through soft curves, essential lines and layers of colour that seem to hold the light, creating suspended and evocative atmospheres. Her works draw inspiration from nature, geological phenomena, Brazilian landscapes and the continuous transformation of light throughout the day.

This artistic research finds a particular resonance with Salina, an island where light constantly shapes the landscape and where the relationship between nature and perception becomes an integral part of the travel experience.

The exhibition invites visitors to observe and interpret, leaving room for a personal gaze. Marina Perez Simão’s compositions evoke the movement of waves and the resonance created when a stone touches the water, guiding the eye through the painting in a journey of balance, depth and imagination.

The opening will take place on Wednesday 1 July at Palazzo Marchetti. Afterwards, guests will be welcomed at Signum for a celebratory cocktail bringing together artists, collectors, enthusiasts and visitors in one of the symbolic places of Salina’s hospitality.

For those who choose Salina, summer thus becomes an opportunity to discover not only the sea, the trails and the flavours of the island, but also its cultural vitality. Hotel Signum continues to accompany this narrative, helping to create moments of encounter that enrich the journey and leave a memory destined to last over time.
