Salina, August 15, 2025
There are people who do not simply live in the present, but shape it. Visionary, determined, able to look beyond and turn imagination into reality. Clara Rametta was one of them. A woman who made her life into a project, and her project into a gift for everyone.
central figure of the island of Salina, entrepreneur and mayor, Clara Rametta left an indelible mark on the Aeolian community. With quiet determination and rare vision, she built much, and she did so with that discreet grace that belongs only to those truly guided by authentic passion.
At her Hotel Signum in Malfa, she gave form to an idea of hospitality that became a cultural, aesthetic and emotional experience. Not simply a place to stay, but a space where respect for the land, attention to detail and love for one’s roots were translated into true hospitality. Every gesture, every corner spoke of her.
But the entrepreneur was never separated from the committed citizen. As mayor of Salina, she deeply believed in the potential of her land, working with tenacity to help it grow and to project it beyond the limits of insularity. Culture, sustainable tourism, environmental protection and the promotion of the territory were the pillars of her administrative work.
In her coexisted pragmatism and delicacy, strength and measure. A profound kindness, never displayed. A rare capacity for listening and dedication. Clara did not seek the spotlight, but she acted. And her actions, as often happens with the most authentic figures, spoke far more than words.
Loved by her family, a point of reference for the community, she was for many, to paraphrase her beloved Franco Battiato, “a permanent center of gravity.” For her children, Luca and Martina, for her husband Michele, for those who stood by her, she was balance, strength and root.
Today Salina mourns her, but at the same time celebrates her. Because Clara Rametta has left a legacy that goes beyond memory: it is a model of genuine excellence, of sincere hospitality, of love for one’s land. An example that will continue to live on in her works, in her places, in the people she inspired.
There are people who remain, even when they are gone. Clara Rametta is one of them.
